I have an SQl 2000 database with a table that holds a Date value and a DATA value that is set as a nchar data type called "Amount" the amount field hold both Interger data such as .01 or 2.4 etc... but is ALSO holds Vaiables such as E, I, X etc.. these indicate that data is "Missing", or "Suspect" etc.. we need to keep these varible letters in this field but we need to be able to query out integers to compute SUMS, Averages etc... but becuse of the data type we get a type mismatch error. We can convert the string to a Integer but as soon as it find a Letter vatible it errors out. We need an SQL statment that will allow us to ADD, SUM, AVG etc.. the records that are Intergers. Here is what we have so far:
SELECT AVG(CONVERT(int, Amount)) AS Expr1
FROM OBPrecipData
WHERE ([Date] = '2/1/2004')
