Hi all,
I’m a student of Communication Sciences at the Ghent University (Belgium) and I’m looking for some people who could help me realize a personal project of mine.
For a few months I've been working on an alternative platform for easy exchange of music. More specifically, I'm looking for a way for artists AND music fans to help each other so everybody can benefit from the music experience. Why? Because these days, there is no direct stairway to heaven for these two groups to achieve their goals.
“Becoming widely known†is the number one aim of a starting musician, but achieving this is probably harder than writing good songs. Student-musicians will be better off to start building their reputation while they’re still at school. For start they have more time than when they have a job, to make their dreams come true.
New music bands often become famous due to their peers. That’s why I would love to create a new platform that gives these people a chance to share their music (online) with each other. My project is mostly aimed at student public. But if the concept generates a wider range of enthusiasts, I have a few expansions plans in mind.
And now to the more practical side of the story:
To exchange your music, I thought one could use a dropbox/spotify mix: as an artist, you upload your music whereafter ‘The program’ makes it public – and available – for the whole community. But a program which you can only use for listening to the so called ‘school music’ is a bit limited in its functionality. Therefore it’s essential one can do more than that: one should be able to add their already downloaded files to one’s music library as well (the offline music won’t be located in ‘the cloud’).
To those of you developers who would like to help me, I haven’t got any problem if you would use code/features from existing open source programs. But I still would like to have an index/references of those programs you use.
You can find further information and a (raw) graphical presentation on [login to view URL]. I highly recommend reading the FAQ first. From there on you can analyze the program more easily.
Now for the fun reality check: Obviously, as a student, my means are limited (sob, sob). I can’t compensate you for all the hard work you would put in, but I do hope to find a gracious person who’s willing to help me and my project for the glory.
Big thanks in advance!
