I need to be able to uncompress gzipped content in a string.
Basically, my application requests websites via winsock and on certain occasions, I receive content that has been compressed via GZip.
I however need to be able to uncompress that content (which has been stored in a string) to readable HTML. There are a couple of free utilities out there that can do this, but they do not do it well (<[login to view URL]> ). They cannot correctly determine the start and the end of the gzipped content usually, and thus uncompress the content incorrectly.
I need a function that will return the unzipped content of a gzipped string or an error if the content cannot be unzipped. Since I will be uncompressing strings in my own visual basic application, this needs to be done via a dll, module, activex control, etc (not a self executable exe)
There is a ton of info about gzip at [login to view URL]
attached is one such file that contains gzipped content (a myspace page). to get more, open a packet sniffer and record the data received by sites that return gzip content (for example, yahoo, myspace, google, etc). extract the .html file from the zip, and in it is the gzipped content of the myspace page.
also, check out <[login to view URL]> for additional code that may be useful
Again, it does not really matter what language this is coded in - except .net due to their large runtime files. As long as you can make a working dll or function that can be used in VB6, it will be ok :)
