Convert to PDF & Count Pages

We're creating an online faxing application. Currently, users can upload a document and send a fax. But, we'd like the user to know how many pages the fax is before sending. So, here's the process we're looking for: user uploads file --> we upload it to server --> convert the file to PDF --> we count pages --> we display pages to user. One option is to build this with [login to view URL], but we're open to your thoughts. We'd also like you to pick a nice ajax processing graphic. We prefer a button that shows the percentage of the upload. I'm including the "ideal" file type list that we would support. However, if one file type makes this project significantly more difficult to execute, we're willing to eliminate it. Please read the documentation before bidding on the project. Thank you.
