configure apache webserver perl script to time out after 2 seconds

i have an apache webserver on windows server, sometimes the perl script takes too long to execute and causes the server to get overwhelmed due to the script not executing fast enough. How can i configure the apache web server to kill the perscript or the perlscript stop executing after 1 or 2 seconds whatever threshold i set. I have tried to configure "timeout 2" , "keepalive off" in the [login to view URL] file it dont seem to be working the solution i can accept is either modify my perl script with an auto self destruct after 2 seconds or configure apache to kill the perl cgi executing after 2 seconds
