Project Title: Re-meshing the Front Region of a .stl File Description: I am looking for an experienced freelancer who can re-mesh the selected region of a .stl file. This project requires expertise in 3D geometry, geometric algorithms and C++ programming. Requirements: - The freelancer should have prior experience in re-meshing and working with .stl files. - The freelancer should possess strong knowledge of meshing techniques and algorithms. Ideal Skills and Experience: - Experience in using libraries for meshing is preferred, but not mandatory. I would prefer a library which has a favourable licensing term for use case in a commercial application. Please specify the library which you are planning to use ( can change as you work on the project) Problem statement: Input - I will provide a sample app (VS project) which allows to load a .stl file and view the triangulated version of the same. A code will also be present to select a region of the .stl file. Sample .stl file will also be provided. A region of code where re-mesh functionality has to be written is clearly specified. The visualisation of the .stl files are done in OpenSceneGraph (which is a layer on OpenGL). Output - The same .stl file with the selected region re-meshed. Our application is in C++, however we can use a python library if it speeds up the activity and I can integrate the same. Constraints - The app should also re-mesh the visible surfaces. The surfaces could be in multiple planes. The app need not re-mesh the surfaces which are hidden. Please refer to the attached video which has an explanation of how the project should work. Current algorithm - the working of current algorithm is as follows: a) Extrude the selected region drawn on the screen to a solid ( from near plane to far plane of the camera). b) Intersect the actual .stl file and extruded solid. c) extract the curve obtained by intersecting the two solids. d) Emboss the curve on the actual .stl file with zero thickness (this is nothing but re-meshing boundary) This method is using a library with a non-favourable license terms for us and hence wish to move away from it. The disadvantage of this method also is that the non-visible surfaces are also getting re-meshed which is taking time for dense .stl files. Expectation - first step is for the re-mesh the visible and selected region of .stl file (1st phase). If more work is needed to speed up the operation, we can discuss over a separate project. I can provide all technical help required about explanation/sample code etc. If you have the required skills and experience, and are open to using any libraries for the re-meshing process, please submit your application.
