We need to set up xero to enter the company accounts. Company outline: UK registered Software company, we develop software using subcontractors and sell licences and support as well as consultancy. There costs of R&D, sales and administration. We claim UK R&D tax credits so the accounts need a clear divide to show this intangible asset cost. I think it should be divided as main sections with sub accounts > Cost of Software development, R&D, i assume that the software is an intangible asset as it is sold - Subcontractors - Travel to R&D Centre - Software purchase - Computer hardware purchase (depreciating asset) - Computer hardware rental - Legal > Cost of Sales - Travel - Entertainment - Legal > Revenue - Consulting - Support - Licencing - Software sales > Corporate admin Costs - Accounting - Banking - Legal Completion of the setup and hence the project is subject to my accounts approval.

Hi I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Ireland and I have a lot of experience in bookkeeping. As a Chartered Accountant I am held to the highest standards when producing work for a client. Setting up accounts for clients is something that I have done many times in my career. I am happy to set up your accounts in Xero. The only major issue I see is the treatment of your software development costs. A proportion of these costs will need to be expensed so as to match revenue. When you provide me with the data I will understand the position a little more. But it is likely that we will need to discuss its treatment in your accounts.
