Title: Assessment of the faecal disposal practices in relation to the burden of faecal-oral infections in Isiolo County in Kenya. Abstract An estimate of 2.6 billion people globally lacks access to improved sanitation facilities, whereas 1.8 billion people practice open defecation globally. Safe disposal of human excreta is essential for public health protection. The unsafe disposal of excreta is a principle cause of transmission of pathogens within the environment and improvement in excrement management provides significant reductions in faecal-oral infections. The practice of open defecation can be devastating for human health as well as the environment, and this practice persistence is due to ingrained habit that individuals continue to engage in despite having a better alternative. Open defecation is rampant in Isiolo County with low latrine coverage which may put the residents at risk of contracting faecal- oral infections. Therefore this study aims at assessing the faecal disposal practices and their relation to the burden of faecal-oral infections in Isiolo County. This will be achieved through conducting cross-sectional and observational study. Multi-stage sampling technique will be used to select the households that will be used in the study.
