Extension to Umbraco to allow for articles from external API

We have an Umbraco website that has News. The News articles are stored as children of a News page and managed on that page's admin section via the standard List View within the Umbraco backend - such as shown in the attachment. We like to create an extension to Umbraco that would give the same back-end List View experience of managing News articles. However these articles are off-site and accessed via an REST API (get_articles, publish_articles, unpublish_articles, delete_articles). This API has been written but can also be changed to suit. There is no need to create new "offsite" articles. On the website we would then have 2 pages for News.
