We are a veterinary hospital in Newport Beach, California, USA and we do a fair amount of pro bono work for local animal rescues for their "worst cases" which means animals who are abused or have severe injuries/illnesses. Right now we have a dog whose both rear legs were cut off midshaft tibia (losing tarsus/foot) and was left to die. We nursed the dog back to health, she is young & strong and using a cart (doggie wheelchair) to get around. We were looking to investigate a 3D printed prosthesis solution so she can walk again & be more adoptable. We need help or direction as we're total novices to the 3D printing technology. We have CT capabilities to produce 3D images (& 3D handheld scanner) & we have a beginner 3D printer. We thought to contract you for our first endeavor and maybe have a service print it for us but to learn/grow and hopefully be able to make helping these poor animals a routine event. We would hope to get you media exposure. Attaching older xray and photo images we will be updating.
Attaching links of "traditional prosthetics' for animals which are pretty bad in the design/creative/biomechanical department to get you thinking about what we might need. We plan to get new CT images/photos/xrays this week which will be more current/illuminating for measurements, visual, etc. We are very open for this to be a collaborative process & are happy to learn together, exploring even new ideas and new ways of thinking. Let me know what this will approximately cost. We've seen some very creative artful influences on human artificial limbs to show you as well. As we will 3D print these, we think we can really have fun doing good work for this dog (and future dogs) and they're getting creative for people so seems we could have even more fun for animals. If you have expertise in prosthesis design (or will jump in with related expertise and help us) please contact The Newport Beach Veterinary Hospital 949-722-8152 Thanks for even considering. debra cohen [login to view URL]
