Home automation

I need you to help develop a prototype home automation solution. Using home assistant or equivalent. I would expect you to recommend the hardware/sensors and configure. The objective is to remotely monitor an elderly [login to view URL] not reply if you have no experience. A couple of weeks ago I tried HomeAssistant in a virtual machine and I managed to get it working however I am not sure if I should go with HA or if I should be using some other type of hub.
