There may be a few refactoring required in your code. as you are using CodeIgniter, we can setup RDS Amazon Aurora and configure with your CodeIgniter to connect with that database. We can configure the VPN in such a way, no outsider can access your database except your application if you want remote access for debugging / deployment purpose we can do that as well. You can host static files like images, js, css in s3 CloudFront For an application container, we can use Linux apace in Ec2. If you don't want cloud native, we can setup LAMP stack and deploy the application in EC2. you won't have to maintain multiple services and configuration
