Create a one page WordPress template with a complex query.

I've been trying for two weeks to get a query going with no luck. It's a complex query so hopefully you can help. I have multiple categories and they need to have separate stylings for each setting. I would like to be able to style it my own way so please just add the_title();. I have the following categories: Major, Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D and First. If posts are in those categories, they are brought to the top of the list, the rest are split into two columns (example will be provided). All posts will be using a taxonomy called post-status and the term called 'post-status-published'. Posts in Major, Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D will also use the First category slug as well. Posts not in the Major category should be even split into two columns. Posts not the group should be split into two columns. Posts not in any group should be split into two columns.
