This is a tentative bid. After reading your requirements, I understand that you need to build a PHP script which can be run at set time intervals (using cron jobs for example) , pull the information from a list of merchants without being blocked and update your database (of course if an item is deleted, that will be deleted from database as well). I have done many jobs of such kind and enjoy doing so. I will build the script in PHP using the CURL library so we can have multiple HTTP connections to speed things up. It looks like you need a product search engine and rebuild the index at set time intervals. The best way will probably be a pull function from merchant feeds. There are a few ways to do this, depending on the number of merchants and how many records in total.
