**Summary**
We have a SCO server that runs a large Progress database application. Both SCO (OpenServer 5) and Progress run from a single 18 GB SCSI drive. About 5 users access Progress via our LAN and VPN.
The PC hardware on this server is getting old (1998) and sometimes unreliable (the SCSI controller occasionally has problems). This computer does not have a tape drive but does have two IDE ports from the motherboard that are currently not used.
We want to move SCO and the Progress app to a PC using an IDE drive as the primary drive and a second IDE drive for backups. We want to avoid reinstallation of SCO and Progress. While SCO may be relatively simple, our Progress setup is complicated.
If it is possible, we would like to make the transition to the IDE/PC configuration through a bit copy of the current SCSI drive and then reconfigure it from the new PC to run on the new IDE setup.
Additionally, we want to set up a script to make an automatic backup of the primary IDE drive to the second IDE. We also need instructions on how to restore or use this backup drive when the primary fails. (Yes, we are aware of reliability differences between SCSI and IDE.)
Except for some periods of downtime (a few minutes or an hour), the current server needs to be running in its usual manner.
Please see the attached .doc for more details.
