Solutions Architect/Engineer for subscriptions inclusiveness initiative -- 2

We are seeking an expert with strong understanding of the OAuth 2.0 standard to architect and implement a solution for “The Access Project,” a Google News Initiative-funded project that aims to provide limited access to our paywalled news websites to low-income individuals, students, library patrons and others. We envision a solution that facilitates offline transactions between large institutions and our news organization to pay for distributed, at-home access for many individuals. We aim for a multi-phase roll out where we enable this functionality first for library systems that are already our paying customers, using their log-in system in conjunction with our Auth0 tenant, and then for schools. We are looking to develop protocols to write to the app metadata of profiles in Auth0, and have our front-end paywall system respect entitlements embedded there. As a third phase, we would like to create a portal whereby any philanthropic donor or large organization can underwrite token-based access to large anonymous groups. The ideal candidate: Has experience designing and implementing SSO architecture in a way that meshes well with existing technology stacks and accounts for future developments Is familiar with integrating payment processors including Edgil/Payway; third-party wallets such as Apple Pay, Subscribe with Google and Paypal; authentication services including Auth0; web technologies including Wordpress, Wordpress VIP; and cloud technologies including AWS; and analytics platforms such as Google Analytics Can both design the system and write the necessary code to implement it Is familiar working with/across agile software delivery teams and the collaboration required Must have coding experience in HTML/CSS, Javascript and PHP and is comfortable working in a Github environment Is experienced in design considerations for data privacy, security, solution performance, maintainability, devops, reporting and accessibility Can lead calls with internal stakeholders, technical and product staff, as well as institutional end-clients and their respective tech/IT departments to gain an understanding of existing platforms while kicking the tires on different feasible designs Can distill several architectural options with pros and cons, and a final recommendation Can deliver diagrams detailing technical flows, systems/applications/platforms, and APIs, as well as a technical roadmap in consultation with software engineering teams. Our goal is to design the system within the first 2-3 months and implement over the coming year. The grant is for a one-year period ending in December 2021 with work starting as soon as possible. The work is based on contract. Pay shall be hourly, commensurate with experience, and paid monthly upon receipt of an invoice. We expect to have a reasonable estimate of the expected number of hours to be worked before starting the project in earnest.
