Kitchology is looking for an Operations Engineer to help us augment and build tools around our existing hosted Linux production, staging, testing, and development environment. You will work incredibly close with our engineering and developer teams to help design, implement, and scale our predominantly Java, Glassfish, WordPress, and MySQL based architecture. The resource shall support these systems by implementing the include, but are not limited to the following services: Grant and disable access for Kitchology staff into Linux security files and databases, Troubleshoot Linux system and hardware problems, Build and configure virtual Linux servers, Analyze Linux system problems and system performance and suggest solutions Perform maintenance of Linux servers, Develop and maintain scripting procedures to automate manual processes, System performance monitoring, Coordinate with customer and technical staff in scheduling preventative and emergency maintenance activities, Update software / hardware configurations on Linux servers as required, Document software/hardware configuration changes, Apply hardware, database, and system patches to keep current, Perform backups -- incremental and full where data is stored at both a cloud based and physical location, Provide monthly status report summarizing activities, task completed and work items for the upcoming month Perform all other activities and projects within the general scope of Linux server administration, Enable detailed logging for Linux systems to ensure that all transaction and user activity can be monitored, Maintain and enhance IPTables, Logwatch, PSAD, ClamAV, and other security systems within the servers to minimize illicit access and activities, Harden the server to prevent data leaks and intrusions, Managed sudo access rights for users, Remove all default user accounts and passwords from the system, Enforce password policies (complex, minimum 12 characters, changes every 60 days), and Routinely patch the server with the latest update after it's been vetted on the development platform. Conducting a weekly meeting and presenting a written report that contains accomplishments for the prior week, plans for the upcoming week, and any issues or problems; Responding to Kitchology questions, concerns, and comments, as well as, being proactive in alerting the Kitchology management to potential issues; Providing visibility of current contractor activities, schedules and deliverables for review and collaboration; and Being proactive in alerting Kitchology management to potential contractual and performance concerns or issues. Experience: 3+ years of experience in operations and Linux systems engineering Good understanding of modern web technologies and data storage systems Strong skills in at least one systems programming language (Python, Ruby, Bash, Java, etc.) Some experience with Puppet Some experience with MySQL or other database system.
