I need to be able to run a series of SQL queries against an Excel sheet, and return output from SQL into the Excel sheet.

My company has a SQL database. We use it to track truckloads and invoices, amongst other things. We have one client where we have 216 individual EDI orders in the SQL database that need some info found out. These orders are listed in an Excel spreadsheet. One column named Invoice Number will contain the invoice numbers that need to be queried, another named Customer Load Number contains the ShipmentID that needs to be queried. Basically, if either of these queries returns 0 results, I need it to spit that info out into the same Excel sheet: select * from COMPANYNAME_INVOICE where InvoiceNumber = '%invoicenumberfromexcel%' select * from COMPANYNAME_ORDERDETAIL where ShipmentId ='%shipmentidfromexcel%' order by StopNumber asc If InvoiceNumber returns 0 results, it needs to say "invoice not found" in a status column in Excel. If ShipmentID returns 0 results, it needs to say "shipment not found" in a status column in Excel. If results are returned for both InvoiceNumber and ShipmentID, then it needs to run the following: update COMPANYNAME_INVOICE set EDIReasonCode ='' where InvoiceNumber ='%invoicenumberfromexcel%' update COMPANYNAME_INVOICE set EDIStatus = 'NEW' where InvoiceNumber = '%invoicenumberfromexcel%' update COMPANYNAME_ORDERDETAIL set Status ='COMPLETE' where ShipmentId = '%shipmentidfromexcel%' It would then spit "reprocessed" into a status column in the Excel sheet. My boss gave me the OK to farm this out. I am not a SQL guy, we have no DBA other than an outsourced data warehouse consultant who would charge data warehouse consultant hourly rates. My boss doesn't have the time to do this, I have no co-workers, and I would rather not manually check 216 individual invoice #s and shipment IDs through those lines normally, which is what we've already done for several hundred orders over time to manually identify why they bounced back from our client's EDI.
