I'm a long term VBA expert, and have written a number of apps over the years that leverage the Outlook data model (including automation of emails, templating, generating automatic emails from other office apps, etc) the biggest challenge with outlook vba is the additional security microsoft have added to the product since Office 2003, which often unduly restricts the ODM access. I am confident that we can overcome this (since you will be using the app directly, you can be confident that you're not introducing anything untoward in your own app environment).
