Hi, I am cosidering mysefl an expert in thin film deposition area. I worked ~7 year in semiconductor companies as CVD process engineer (Aixtron equipment), and did MS and PhD in this area, solving real thin film problems for company from which NASA bought infrared detectors for MARS mission. I don't know exactly what type of PVD you have in mind. I am guessing that your task is related to metal or dielectric coatings, where PVD deposition techniques have the most applications. PVD (and more specifically Molecular Beam Epitaxy) applied to semiconductors growth is somewhat more complicated area..
