I think your Viniculum option is cheaper, but the Linux code for this may be easier to write, simpler to maintain, and expandable. I am using alternate systems (custom BeagleBone derivative and an earlier Samsung based part, as well as MOXA embedded GSM Linuv boards) for serial to ethernet and serial to serial. The Raspberry PI Linux is a different distribution, but the toolset is well documented. I'd need a board to develop on, either a loaner from you or an added cost to purchase. The absolute simplest would require a semi-custom PCB and would use a PIC chip with three USB/UART interfaces and a simple FreeRTOS driver. I could Frankenstein this with eval boards if it's a one-off, or, if this is a marketable product, we should talk about expanding the scope and marketing it.

Hi! This is an interesting project, and I would like to know more. It might be easy if you can use a USB hub, and then have the Pi sniff the USB hub. There would still be some software needed to parse out the data coming from the POS.. Otherwise you are going to need someone to write a USB host driver so that the PI looks like a printer. That's much more complicated.

Just that I have a couple of questions. 1. whats the format in which the application send the data to the printer. is it postscript, text or something else ? 2. is the POS application already developed and in use ? if yes, can you share its name to introduce myself, I have over over 15 years of Linux experience and I would love to take up the job.
