Three films in our series of films have dealt with World War II. In the first, "Casablanca", we saw lives interrupted and changed early in the War as the characters were all undergoing some degree of trauma in response to the expansion of the War. (It is interesting that the film was made in 1942 and released in 1943, prior to people knowing the outcome of the War). "Schindler's List" and "Life is Beautiful" dealt directly, albeit in very different way, with the incarceration and execution of the Jewish people in Europe during the War. In light of Richard Kearney's articles on 'trauma', discuss how each film confronts the struggle of good and evil, and the overcoming of one of the greatest evil's of the 20th century - the Holocaust of the Jewish people. How does the viewing of these films assist us in coming to terms with this evil, and the evils of our own time?
