PATCH 1 (20% of total mark and maximum of 500 words): Strategic Purpose - [RED] (Johnson et al., 2011; pages 152-154): You are required to prepare a 300-word self-reflective commentary on the experience of producing and presenting your group project, and a 200-word reflective commentary on another group’s presentation: - The 300-word self-reflective commentary should explain the contribution of this group project to your academic and professional progression. You must also assess your group performance, and provide a mark (0-100 scale) and its justification in relation to the marking criteria for the group presentation. - The 200-word reflective commentary should reflect on another group’s presentation performance. You must provide a mark (0-100 scale) and its justification in relation to the marking criteria for the group presentation. PATCH 2 (40% of total mark and maximum of 750 words): Resources and Capabilities - ‘Inside Dyson’: a distinctive company? (Johnson et al., 2011; pages 115-117) TASK A: Provide a table that presents a brief description and key references of tools and techniques which are used to assess organisational resources and capabilities. TASK B: Provide table(s) and/or figure(s) to illustrate the application of value chain analysis to this case study. Drawing on your value chain analysis, and on concepts / tools outlined in TASK A:  Explain where and how capabilities are developed, employed and managed.  Identify the resources and competences which underpin Dyson’s sustained and / or temporary competitive advantage. TASK C: Provide a 500-word commentary on TASK B and a 250-word reflective commentary on the experience of producing this patch. The reflective commentary should explain the contribution of this patch to your academic and professional progression. PATCH 3 (40% of total mark and maximum of 750 words): Competitive Advantage - Heracleous, L. and Wirtz, J. (2010) “Singapore Airlines’ balancing act”, Harvard Business Review, 145-9. TASK A: Provide a table that presents a brief description and key references of concepts and tools regarding the nature and sources of competitive advantage. TASK B: Applying the above concepts and tools, provide table(s) and/or figure(s) to answer the following questions:  Use SWOT analysis (Johnson et al., 2011; page 107) to explore the relationship between the environmental influences and the strategic capabilities of Singapore Airlines compared with its competitors.  Evaluate Singapore Airlines’ cost and/or differentiation strategies.
