A Call to Action Letter and a Memo

1) A persuasive call-to-action letter to a real audience about an issue of real concern to you. 2) A memo to me about rhetorical situation for your message & how you have adapted your message to it. Instructions for the letter: Write a concise letter of no more than about 600 words, addressed to a specific person or group of people, asking for a specific action in regard to an issue that you care about. In class, we will work together to develop a basic blueprint for organizing call-to-action messages, which you can and should use as a guide to organizing your letter, but you should also adapt the content, organization and style of the letter so that it is a good fit for your particular rhetorical situation. To keep the task manageable and realistic, I recommend that you focus on a situation close to home. For example: No organization or community is perfect. Pick one significant thing that you’d like to change about an organization or group that you are part of—your workplace, your neighborhood or apartment complex, an organization that you belong to or participate in. Identify the decision-maker(s) (i.e. power-holder; the people who can make it happen) and write a message to that person or group of people, asking them to take a specific action toward the change you want. or When consumers experience problems with products or services, they often tell themselves “I should write a letter about that.” Think of a problem that you have recently experienced as a consumer--perhaps a poor-quality product or rude or incompetent service. Make this more than a complaint. Instead, decide what action you think needs to be taken to compensate you or to solve the problem so that it doesn’t happen again. Figure out who is in the right position to take the action you suggest. Then write the message and ask for what you want. The rest of the assignment is attached. If you think you could write a great call to action letter, I will pay. The issue I was hoping to write about is to ban smoking from the University of Tennessee campus.
