1. To have a flexible framework, I recommend node.js + php (I have experience in both) 2. I have written a YouTube downloader, it is written in JavaScript so I can borrow code from there 3. Certainly the caching is the important part. I can implement it for you. Note that you are going to need a huge bandwidth for this project!

Hello, here's my proposition : to ensure performance and scalabilty of the solution I'd suggest the following : Lightweight PHP frontend that would aliment a queue with the list of the videos to download + a small asynchronous process relying on standard tools to download the video and perform the audio extraction. Regarding the caching I'd have a look at either a simple "on disk" solution with recurrent job to perform cleanup or Amazon S3 with the same feature if you want to offload this traffic from the server while ensuring high availability & performance. This solution would exactly fit in an Amazon WebServices environment, by using some of the bricks (S3, EC2+SQS) or hosted and built on-top of your existing infrastructure. If you're already using a CDN (Cloudflare, Akamai ...) we can of course tune your configuration accordingly.
