Apache Nutch search engine implementation

I am building a new (proprietary) user interface for Google search engine. So right now my site is one page only; it sends requests to Google search in new windows. All this is already working. However, I now want to know if it is possible to not rely on Google for web search, as well as on any other web search engine (like Google API, Bing or Yahoo), by using another website indexation platform, like Nutch. I don't know how Nutch works, or the limitations/disadvantages, but anyway what I need now is to allow web search queries directly within my own website, without relying on another search engine, so I thought of using Nutch since it is open-source. I would like you to give me your impressions and recommandations. If there is a better alternative to Nutch, or if it is not going to fill my needs, please let me know before starting the development. I want to build an alternative to Google without the need to develop my own crawler/spider. If there is one performant we can use, and if it is hosted on external servers, I will be interested in hiring somebody comfortable with that technology. I am looking for long-term partnership also, so chances are if you deliver, I will send you job more frequently thereafter.
