cdma phone content checker

I'm working on a project written in vb, that should check if it is any user content saved in a cdma mobile phone the way I'm doing it is I'm downloading the necessary files from the phone via usb/serial communication and the program is examining the file's for non default content there, so my problem is that the phone is locked by default from accessing the files there but there is a program called BitPim that some how they are unlocking the phone, (they are calling it DM mode) i looked in the open source from the bitpim program(written in python, nice commented) i saw there that they are using an SHA-1 to retrieve the code in order it should get unlocked, but I'm not familiar with binary and shifting to understand what they are doing there so I'm looking for help for that.
