I need an access database to help improve my documentation process for client networks. I have about 20 pages of documentation (please see the attached sample of the types of pages - not all pages are there, but it typifies the type of info / format I want - tables of data - the number of records can change, several of the same pages (machine details - I need to be able to make new pages for each PC on the network, etc), check boxes, etc.
I am looking for someone to rough out this database. - I know just enough about access to figure out how to add fields to tables, etc...
I initially thought I was going to get away with a single table - each record would be the data for a single client. I had someone make a database for that, and as I started filling in the extra fields needed, I found that there's hundreds of fields for each client's docs... but access only allows 255 fields / record! So I guess I have to do it right - each form is a table? I also thought being able to browse a single long form (like the attached PDF) would make it easy to jump from one part of a clients docs to another. is that possible? Or each table would have to be it's own form? (20 seperate forms just to deal with a single client's data) ! : (
I made these word docs nice looking (at least I think so), and wanted to be able to merge the data for a specific client into the word doc rather than use / remake the reports in the access report pages... and we did that on a small scale. But making this larger database, is it possible? I'd want to be able to print a single form that changes or all the forms for a single client easily.
thanks!
## Deliverables
1) Complete and fully-functional working access database with the ability for me to revise / update / edit the data and schema
2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):
All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
the data mod field should have the date that any data on that page changed / was added. not for the entire document, just for that page (I was playing with the onchange property for each record related to that page - I wrote a tiny VB script that put todays date in that field when the specific field with the onchange was changed. seemed to work.

I can't seem to add an attachment to this broadcast, so I posted the sample database I wanted to show you that I played with last night at the URL at the end of this It has just a few fields for a couple pages... certainly not all that I want, but what I think is the concept for entering data.
some things I'd like to have added (since I don't know how : )
a combo box? (pulldown) of all clients and the ability to add more clients.
the router info is a subform like users & shares. Not sure if that's OK (there's only 1 router per client, but I guess that a subform leaves it open to a 2nd router? so maybe that is OK?
there's a table with just client / that's the primary key to other tables. so you can't change / revise the client name - it's on all the other forms also? Should have an autonumber as the client number / primary key? I was trying to keep it simple and saw that doesn't work.
It still needs to be exported to word? I say word because I envision dropping mailmerge fields into the large word doc / word is easier to customize? but as I type this, I realize, that exporting the users - you can't export the table of data? and same for router - if there were 2 routers, my word doc only has 1 copy of the router page? Maybe I am moving away from word? Screw the nice appearance of word and make it a functional document? But all this data - will that max out some 255 limit somewhere - in the report or something?
