Automatic Attendance System Using Image Processing Technique

The automated attendance system contains two interfaces: the first interface is for gathering the students’ information, which is name, ID, and student's face. The second interface is for taking the attendance during the lecture time and applying face recognition algorithm by using the image processing toolbox in MATLAB. Camera captures the images of the classroom and sends it to the image enhancement algorithm. Image comes in the face detection and recognition algorithm. All the faces are detected from the input image then compares them one by one with the enrollment student faces database. Then, the attendance is marked in database. Camera takes the images continuously to detect and recognize all the students in the classroom as well as to avoid false detection. Finally the system will be listing all the unrecognized faces and the teacher is able to capture new picture of the student’s face and store it in the enrollment database as an updated picture of this particular face. Otherwise, the teacher can display the attendance sheet in the system and takes the attendance for these unrecognized students.
