Consulting - MySQL Clustered DataBase using complex Joint Queries

Requesting EXPERIENCED MySQL Data Base Clustering Expertise for consultation with our technical staff. BACKGROUND 1. We have a performance issue with a webapp, (Linux,Java, PHP, MySQL, Apache & TomCat. The servers are high performance. Analysis shows the complex queries (joining several tables) which are gathering data for a report, are single threading through the Non Clustered MySQL Data Base, Version 5.0.77 The first query must finish before the next query can start. 2. Our team has experimented with the MySQL Cluster Beta and Release candidate. The results show the performance is much slower using the clustered approach. Our team has no experience with clustered databases. 3. The application allows the user to select many parameters from the GUI and then select from several complex reports. For example, a 5 page report may have 5 queries to select the data from multiple tables to produce charts and cross tabs. SERVICES REQUESTED 1. Advice on speeding up the threading, getting multiple queries to execute at the same time. a. Is it possible without clustering b. Is clustering MySQL databases the right approach when using complex join queries. 2. If there is a recommended approach from # 1 above, Respond to a list of ten questions from the technical team on the method and approach.
