Wordpress Permalinks Problem

Website [login to view URL] i have as wordpress (but currently not live). It's a Wordpress site on a Yahoo hosting platform. The default permalinks work fine but when I switch to /%postname%.html i can't get a new .htaccess file uploaded even if I put it as 1htaccess then change it to .htaccess when I upload. Simple project thinking just an hour of work. Will provide FTP and control panel access right away.
