Migrate website photo catalog and functionality to CDN

I develop and manage a website that has around 8 gigabytes of photo assets. These are currently served from a folder in the applications directory structure, but I think it's time to move to a CDN solution for a few reasons:
1. Reduce strain on the application server
2. Remove the need to download all these assets when working with the VM developers use to run the site locally
Requirements/Tasks:
* move images to AWS S3
* remove the need to download images from the Vagrant bootstrap script
* modify PHP code to send and retrieve photos from CDN instead of the local directory
* provide some kind of redirect functionality to convert old photo urls to the new ones
You will need to be comfortable with PHP, Linux, and AWS s3.
