Socket io redis in Node js

First of all, I want to take the below project and modify it for my purpose.

The area that I am interested is porting it to support socket.io-redis.

As far as I know, there are two methods.
1. Using rooms
2. Using Pub/Sub
The goal is I need to start multiple instances of node in different ports and be able to play chess with each other.
I need a proof of concept in both methods.
