Compile flex for windows

1. Compile flex for windows XP ([login to view URL]) with the change specified here ([login to view URL])

2. Clear instruction on how to format the input file (I can handle inserting and formatting the rules once I know the format). I'll be using literal expressions for the rules. These literal expressions will include mostly 2-byte unicode characters (Japanese--I can convert to whatever flavor of unicode you recommend). It looks like if you could just write the beginning and ending sections, a couple of lines each, and I can do the middle rules section.

3. Instructions on how to generate the code for the scanner and then compile it.

I've got Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express; I'll need to be told if I need to get any other software and exactly how to use it. I need to be able to generate scanners myself.

The above is all I'm asking for. In case it helps to know, or in case you want to suggest a different way of doing it, what I want to use this for, the larger project is formatting a large dictionary for more convenient use. I've got a huge Japanese<>English database, ~4 million entries. Because it's made for native Japanese speakers, it doesn't include the pronunciations for many words (there's no way to deduce the pronunciations from the characters in the words). I have another huge file with about 600,000 Japanese words with their pronunciations. What I want to do is make a scanner that will replace each WORD in the main dictionary with WORD {PRONUNCIATION}. So, effectively, sequentially running 600,000 search and replace operations on a 4 million line file (there will be multiple hits in each line). I tried using a python script--it was going to take weeks to run on my Core2 Quad Q6600 with 4 GB RAM. Other software tools seemed as if they'd take even longer.

## Deliverables

1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.

2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):

a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.

b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.

3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).

3) Clear instructions for using the program.
