Sitecore and Umbraco installation

We have sitecore web app installed in the root of a website which is configured to use .NET 2.0 Classic application pool.
Sitecore team says that it cannot be installed in a subdirectory even if we make it an application with 2.0 classic app pool.
Now, we have Umbraco ad it works fine in a subdirectory and the subdirectory is configured to use .NET 4.0 Integrated.
Our requirement is that the Sitecore in .NET 2.0 and Umbraco in .NET should both reside in root of a web application.
The reason is that Sitecore currently serves some part of the website and Umbraco some other.
