My native language is Spanish, I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Literature and Linguistics (Spanish language), seven years of experience as a Proofreader, four of which I have been focusing on reviewing, editing and post-editing translations from US English to US/LATAM Spanish, as well as translating documents within the same language pair. I am responsible, can meet established deadlines, and I take my job very seriously. I work hard to deliver projects with QA, and easy to read and understand. I love reading and everything remotely connected to books and the process of publishing one. My next goal is to pursue a Translator Degree.
For more than two years, I worked as a Proofreader in one of the largest professional service networks in the world (KPMG). Being part of this organization has also allowed me to think from the client’s perspective and to provide a service matching the client’s demands, while maintaining the image built through the marketing of the brand. Before this professional experience, I had the opportunity to work for a media company where I was task with creating new content for different websites on multiple topics.
For the past four years, I have been editing and proofreading documents translated by others, as well as translating multiples documents regarding different areas. From this position, I have been able to expand my knowledge on specific topics and work with different CAT Tools, such as MemoQ and Memsource. My goal for every project is to provide a reading experience as natural and fluent as possible. It is crucial that the intended Spanish-speaking public not only understands what they're reading, but be able to "listen" to the voice on the other side of the text and not a machine translated connection of phrases. In this case, to provide a translations that not only sounds familiar to the user but it feels natural and realistic. With every project comes a different set of rules and requests sent by the client (e.g., glossaries, styles guides, specific formatting, etc.).
My job not only includes guarantying these requirements are met, but to improve the quality of the translation as well in any way possible. Since my previous professional experience and formal education are mainly based on proofreading, editing, and the proper way to write in Spanish, my work's focus is displaying the correct grammar, spelling and punctuation of any text.
