Am working in Visio & Excel on Windows systems. Excel file contains a master list of devices that show connections to a bunch of other things. This list is filtered, so I can select, say, 1 device out of 20 devices and view all that device's connections.
I have a corresponding Visio drawing of all the devices. I want to click (or double-click) on a shape & have that open up Excel and show ONLY the connections for the device for the shape that was clicked on (the FILTERED view - not unfiltered - in Excel).
Would like this to work in Visio/Excel 2003 or better.
So, would be as follows:
Visio (2003 or better): When shape is clicked:
1) Open specific Excel (2003 or better) file in current directory (if file is not in current directory, open a file open dialog box for user to navigate to & select the correct directory/filename).
2) Automatically apply the correct Excel column filter* based upon the shape clicked. (Eg,: Shape for DeviceC clicked in Visio and Excel file needs to open & column that contains the device names needs to select "DeviceC" so that only DeviceC connections display in Excel.)
3) Subsequent different shape selections in Visio would open Excel file with different, corresponding device filters applied.
*Also, Excel file column filters (combo boxes) are on the SECOND row (not the first row).
