What kind of chain do you want ? if you choose me i can do exactly what Cinema 4D can with 3ds max, i promise you it will be no deal creating your chain, i have great skills at modelling hard surface, just write me and we can go on with the project. just tell me how you want it and you will get great 100% satisfying results. i will just model the first chain and then i will align some instances with a spline, then you get the chain ;) I'm excellent at modelling.
