This is a private enquiry for a private residence.
We are wanting a large kitchen extension to extend to the back and side borders of our property. The reason why we need an Structural Engineer is because at the back of our property there is a retaining wall for what can be described as an embankment rising some 30 feet high at an angle of approx 80 degrees.
Between our existing kitchen and the rear retaining wall, there is a raised decking. This raised decking (c 70cm high) will need to be dug out and removed. Our architect requires us to investigate how far the foundations go down - because we would not wish to have to dig under and bolster the existing foundations to the retaining wall. We therefore need to understand the depth and nature of the foundations to the retaining wall.
