I need an application to extract text from a given picture, and it must work reliably in the case of there being additional noise in the picture, such as discoloring or lines through the text. The application would preferably be written in Python but other languages are possible.

Hi, we have done OCR using OpenCV and Tesseract. Both are stable open source tools well suited for this task and can work with Python. However there is a practical limit to the accuracy of the result, esp if the input image is noisy. What are the conditions in which the images are captured - I mean the camera, lighting conditions etc.

Hi, I am highly skilled in Python with more than 10 years experience. I'd propose using tesseract OCR package to recognize and extract text from picture. also OpenCV should be used to deal with noise. pls reply for further discussion. Michael
