I need some advice to manage a project that I am undertaking. It would be advice for the project manager (myself). I will hire upto 3 programmers to perform 3 separate and modular tasks. 1. I want to scrape information from betting websites automatically and compile them similarly to ([login to view URL]). (So far it seems like Python/beautiful soup is ideal for this). I need to access information quickly at times - refreshing at tight intervals. This does not always have to be the case, so perhaps some refresh settings could be built in for different processes of the program? It is a problem for a website to receive many refresh requests? How often do websites change the way they display data? (how safe is the script(?) that scrapes data from changing in the future?) 2. With this information compiled, I want to manipulate the data that has been compiled automatically and create a set of bets according to criteria. There will be some risk management measures in this process, it will fit a model to the data and it will create a set of bets to take. (I was thinking that excel/VBA will be best for this process as strategies will be added in the future as well as risk analysis and model analysis) Can VBA automatically process the scraped odds data as it is compiled? Will it be able to perform these calculations quickly, efficiently e.t.c.? 3. When the conditions for betting are met, the bets should be sent to the betting sites. This involves connecting the output of excel/VBA to betting sites/betfair. (unsure of how this should go). Is this as simple as finding the bets that have been created accurately and sending them to a betting site? What program would be used for this? I need to know if Python (beautiful soup) and excel/vba are the best ways to do this or if there are other recommendations. What are the things I should consider in making a decision? I need future programmers to see what is going on clearly and to also possibly fix something if it goes wrong. I need somebody to ask me a bunch of questions so that I know what I do not know. I also need them to go over my proposition after I have made it so that it makes sense for them. I think that it should take around an hour of somebodies time, perhaps 2 but I would like things well thought out and explained, a list of questions for me, and a review or two. If I come back for more information we can negotiate more time.

Hi. I have scraped website data into databases for a living, for many years now. I think I'm probably your guy. (I am also doing that -- but not for a betting site -- for someone else in Australia right now.) I am a native English speaker, located in the U.S. But I can be available in Australia time as long as it isn't past, say, 5:00 pm your time if you're in Melbourne or 4:00 if in QLD. I can give you lots of good advice about what this will take to do, and how it should be done. As you say, an hour or two should do it. We can use an online text chat forum to do it, or video call, whatever.

I also have experience formatting Excel data using openpyxl for a former project, I believe this is just a wrapper from the VBA module. Regarding your questions in point 1: This does not always have to be the case, so perhaps some refresh settings could be built in for different processes of the program? + Yes, Is possible to add some logic to 'refresh' the page in a greater frequency. This could be achieved by connecting with different IPs to the website, It is a problem for a website to receive many refresh requests? + Yes if they come from the same IP, so we need to rotate them in order to prevent blocking. How often do websites change the way they display d + Certanly is not possible to know. Usually the changes are done in the graphic design of the website. But is also possible that we found a major upgrade that will change the structure of the website, in that case some arregements will be required to do. Just to summaize the answers of 2) and 3): 2) We could handle this data without Excel using Pandas library (which have a really good performance) 3) If the website use Javascript I will use Selenium for bidding. Phew!
