I have a WAN and many users who are forgetful and prone to ignore e-mail. I want a way to send out reminders with more options than net send.
I want an application which consists of two parts:
a client app which runs on my users machines
a server app which we keep and operate
the overall function should be as follows:
a system tray icon as a place-marker for the app on client machines, should run as a service, and be resistant to termination by user.
when server app sends 'announcements', they pop-up just above the system tray on client app machines, and remain there for a minimum of X seconds, and then can be closed by the user.
the client app checks for wan connectivity to an ip which can be specified by the server app. if connectivity is lost, a different kind of pop-up will appear with an administrator-configurable warning message.
the server app will have the ability to show all running occurances of the client app, and will have the ability to sort computers by name, and send announcements to only certain computers if need be. configurable groups/computer lists of some sort would be good.
server app will have the ability to add/remove a file/list of files from any directory on the client app pc. for example- "if exists [C:\documents and settings\all users\desktop] add [login to view URL]" or "if exists [C:\documents and settings\all users\desktop\[login to view URL]] delete [login to view URL]" or "create/add to c:\temp\[login to view URL]".
prefer light, free-standing app to one that relies on windows messenger service, etc. for examples of light and feature-rich, see ipmessenger or gencontrol.
We may decide to allow developer rights to continue with their own development of the application for their own purposes if they are interested.
