Free Word Excel Password Recovery Wizard is an application that uses brute force and dictionary attacks to recover Word and Excel 97 to 2003 file open passwords (standard encryption only for version 2003).
The current application uses a C++ password engine (in the form of a DLL) with a .NET based user interface wrapper.

Artwork and existing C++ code for RC4 encryption will be supplied to the successful coder.
Current issues
There are three current issues:
1) Graphic design is dated. A fresh new design has been developed. This includes all artwork that is necessary for inclusion in the application.
2) Installation is unwieldy, being based on NET. This leads to the occasional installation problem when people run the setup executable rather than the setup script. In addition, the installation requires the .NET framework and cannot be simply deleted from the system after use.
3) Application does not support Office 2007 encryption, which is based on AES. This needs to be included in order to support Word and Excel 2007 file open password recovery.

Required changes
The required changes are to address the major issues:
1) Add AES password engine. The program needs to be able to distinguish between files saved in Office 2007 format, and those in previous formats. For Office 2007 files, it should use the AES engine, for previous versions, the current RC4 engine.
2) Ideally, the entire application should be able to simply be copied to a directory rather than installed (which involves the registry). It should have minimal impact on the rest of the person’s system and be able to be removed by simply deleting the directory.
3) The entire application should be written in C++ or similar for efficiency, with no use of .NET. Speed is paramount for this type of application. The application however should not use the entire CPU to the detriment of the operating system. Where possible, the code should take advantage of dual cores.
4) The application must use the new artwork for its design
5) The application must be able to automatically save its progress periodically, and be able to resume a recovery from an saved point.

2) The application must used the design artwork which will be supplied to the successful coder.
