I am trying to create a system consisting of a series of sensors for detecting and possibly locating vibrations on a drum surface. The details are as below;
Input: Drumbeat – varying strengths from a light “tap” to a harder “tap” – never an extremely hard “thud” (the hardest would probably be the strength of flicking yourself on the hand with your finger). There could also be a "rolling beat"
Output: The required measurement parameters are strength of the drumbeat and frequency (beats per second or beats per minute etc)
Another parameter that would be desired would be location – Using the vibration sensors to triangulate the origin of the detected vibration.
The generated signal will need to be transmitted wirelessly (Bluetooth) to a mobile device and I would need an app to visualise the beat and also provide quantitative data such as beats per minute etc.
An example of a theoretical system is as in the attached diagram.
In this system, 3 vibration sensors (red crosses) are placed underneath the drum surface and are used to triangulate the origin of the drumbeat (bullseye) and produce an output indicating strength, frequency and location
Where the red crosses indicate the vibration sensors (piezo electric?)
