I research military history and compile large lists of soldiers. The largest table has 6 million rows of names in it, the smaller ones have 100,000 upwards.
1st step is the importing of the relevant data base. When the path to the relevant database has been selected, I then select the table that I need to work on from that database. I find the table (from a drop down list that appears) and click import to import it into the app. The imported table will be imported to tblData and will be the same as it was (column headings included) as it was in the original database.
Functions I want
1. Duplicate below - this is for duplicating data in a blank cell using the data in the cell immediately above the blank cell. The code will copy and paste the data into the blank cell and will continue to do so until it finds the next cell that is not null.
It will then find the next blank cell and do the same.
2. UnitList and Units.
The UnitList is the important function.
I want you to build a table (called Unit Changes) that will activate a function based on the data in 1 of 5 other tables (called ULWW1, ULVictorian, UL1920, UL1939, or UL1947).
When you double click on Unit Changes the software will ask which table do you want to use (ie drop down list ULWW1, ULVictorian, UL1920, UL1939, or UL1947).
Select the relevant time frame and then the code will look for the column headed Unit in the selected table (say ULWW1), look for the cells in the column called Unit in tblData and find a Unit in the old column of ULWW1 and replace it with the new (in ULWW1).
The data ranges from 1790 to 2019 so I need the UnitList tables.
3. RankList and Ranks.
We have to do the same to update the various Ranks in tblData when a table is imported into the software.
I want you to build a table (called Rank Changes) that will activate a function based on the data in 1 of 5 other tables (called RLWW1, RLVictorian, RL1920, RL1939, or RL1947).

4. change to Upper Case. I would like the code to look for a column called UpperCase (depending on what data I want in Upper Case, I will change the name of the relevant columns in tblData).
So all the user has to do is click on Upper Case and the code says do you want me to start working to change to upper case or something ... remember I will have changed the column header in tblData to reflect what you have used in the code.
5. delete duplicates. The code goes through all the data and look for identical rows .... the data in the cells needs to be identical except in pdf name/pdf page.
The software will show me (with the 2 rows together, hopefully the 2nd identical entry highlighted in pale grey) that these rows are identical. All 2nd rows will have a column in which there is a box which by default will be ticked.
At the top of the view pages there will be a button PROCESS and another STOP. If PROCESS is clicked then all the 2nd duplicated rows that have a tick in the box will be deleted in tblData. If STOP is clicked then the window closes/nothing is changed.
Before I click PROCESS I need to have the ability to untick as many boxes as I want.
When rows are deleted it will be the second row that is to be deleted, not the first.
6. - a new function will be a button called Similar - by clicking this button the software will interrogate the data and look for similar, but not identical, pieces of data.
