Your essay focus is not to write a traditional book report. You are tasked with analyzing the book you choose. Consider questions/ideas such as these:
Analyze the author’s writing styles and techniques.
What does the author do well? What does she do poorly?
What is accomplished with this story? Does her writing style help accomplish her goals?
How old is the book you read? Can you relate with the characters in the book?
An author chooses every single character in a fiction novel. Why did the author choose to include the characters she did? Are they all important to the story? Should there have been more/fewer characters?
Is your novel socially relevant today? Are any of the social criticisms in the book still relevant? Explain and give comparisons to modern times – even to your own life.
How did the physical setting of the novel impact the story? Was it clearly described and explored by the author?
With millions – billions – of books and stories to compare with, what connections to other works did you think of when reading your novel?
