I have an OSMF-based Flash player, which streams live video to users. The media server is Wowza.
The purpose of the task it to optimize buffering and reconnection routines of the player in order to achieve more uninterruptable streaming in cases, when the user experiences intermittent internet connection, e.g. ping time-outs.
Currently the player is extremely sensitive to the internet connection - it will stop playing whenever small connection disruptions occur - e.g. occasional ping time-outs. It is not buffering properly and will not try to keep the connection alive and continue playing.
The purpose is to compensate such connection time-outs through proper buffering and trying to restore the connection.
I will point out a player on another website, which will serve as a model of what behaviour I am trying to achieve.
The situation of intermittent connection will be simulated by short disconnections (1-2 consecutive time-outs) of the internet connection. The task will be considered done if the player will continue after 4 or so disconnections within 2 minutes (to be discussed). A goal will be to optimize the buffering in a way that will provide minimum stops for buffering.
I will provide an access to a stream and source code of the player.
Technical data:
- OSMF 2.0-based player. Only visual modifications performed.
- Stream: h.264 encoded, bitrate 600 kbits/sec, HTTP (San Jose)
- Media server: Wowza Media Server
P.S. I have an IT background with experience in other programming platforms and will provide adequate support and communication.
