I’m looking to have a paper drill created. The goal: Design both the Drill Housing and drill bits that allows me to drill through 3-4” of paper, and get parts made and attached to an existing machine. A. Drill housing: 1. Will probably need to be able to split down the middle. I say this as I believe the Drill Bits can be placed inside. 2. Holes a. Will be in a straight line for a total of 40 holes b. The diameter of each hole will be 0.21” c. The space between each hole will be 0.185” -This will make three holes per inch. B. Design Drill Bits: 1. Each bit will need to be tapered at the end to cut through paper as it turns. 2. Each drill bit will be hollow, so paper can flow through it. 3. Interior diameter will need to be 0.19” 4. Each bit will be subject to both radial and axial forces. Will need to be designed to withstand those in a small area. 5. Each drill bit will be turned via a belt. 6. Each bit will need to be tapered at the end to cut through paper as it turns. I’ve tried to be as specific as possible. Please, let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Caleb

Hi there, This is Bogdan from Romania. I'm a mechanical engineer - specialized in the industrial robotic field, 3D designer, industrial designer and, 3D modeler. For some of my projects, I'm also doing the physical prototype too. I'm doing product design, industrial design, reverse engineering, ideation, etc. I have over 15 years of experience working on various systems/devices across multiple industries, from concept to launch. 1 - you will need to press the pile of paper in order to avoid ripping off of the upper layer(s) 2 - will be necessary to have one shaft which to drive all the drill bits at once (this is the real challenge) - and the solution with a single belt is not quite workable as the center axis of the bits is only 0.185"... 3 - would be useful to see more drawings/sketches btw - there is a discrepancy between said center axis - 0.185" and the dimensions in the pdf - 0.197"... :( For any more questions, we could chat here, including the whole details of the project, final price, time frame, deliverables, etc, etc... Dear, I must say I am intrigued by this project. I have researched the design of paper drill bits...it seems to be a standard thing, maybe available in this dia? The pitch and the number of holes are a challenge. I suppose one motor will drive the belt... More than 15 years of experience in design and technology in field of automotive and aerospace connector industry, and design of related automation machines, jig fixtures etc... I am sure you can share more details based on which reverse engineering can be done. It is possible also to make a complete prototype in Croatia (Offer first...).
