Sample: The Everlasting Presence of Conformity
Conformity is a type of social influence that results in a change of belief or behaviour in response to meeting group norms and standards. Conformity occurs as a result of two types of social influences, informational and normative. Informational social influence involves the acceptance of information from others in an attempt to create an accurate representation of reality. This happens in times when an individual lacks suitable information or is in situations that are unclear and unfamiliar. On the other hand, normative social influence causes individuals to conform because of the desire to meet the expectations of others and exist in harmony with the majority of a group. Although learning the definition of conformity is important, the real importance lies behind understanding the power of conformity and the significant role it plays in our everyday lives.
