We need an approach to adding functionality into Outlook. Eventually, this project may include (in follow on projects) integration into a Java/XML backend. The first phase of this project is to find someone who knows how to do this (and has done it before).
If we get multiple good proposals, we may hire up to 3-5 coders to deliver a the sample application to achieve a simple but native outlook integration.
Integration is for "Top-Level" and "Context Sensitive" menus in Outlook 2003 (and 2000, if possible) that would allow us to add a menu like File or Help that has menu items that will in later phases pop up native windows user interfaces that collect form data. Additionally, we should be able to build menus that are accessed when a user "right-clicks" on a message, contact, or task.
This project is simply this. Add menus to "outlook" that
- know about the context (which message?) they were launched from
- add different menus to different parts of outlook.
- pop up a message box telling us about where it was launched from and its context.
This project is for an approach to the problem. The coder with the best approach will likely be selected to complete the work in subsequent phases to provide us with the full implementation.
Your approach should consider the following requirements:
- Minimal Installation required
- No linking to 3rd party libraries or use of Open Source code
- prototype or example program with relevant source code
- Half page explanation of approach and why it is the best way to integrate with Outlook
Happy bidding.
